The NewSouth Bookstore actively hosts bookstore and off-site literary programs — book talks and readings — along with a variety of other programs both entertaining and educational. These include presentations by historians, readings of plays, music events, and community service programs. We enjoy such gatherings quite a lot. Our bookstore events calendar is always evolving, so please regularly check back here for updates to our calendar (and/or follow us on social media, where all such activities are also posted). We welcome your event suggestions and thank you for your support.
Off the success and great fun of our group read of Ivan Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons, we are ready to announce our next. Our assistant manager, Jessala White, has chosen The Evolution of Annabel Craig. In this moving novel by Lisa Grunwald, a young Southern woman sets out on a journey of self-discovery as the infamous 1925 Scopes Trial tests her marriage and faith. According to one critic, the book is “an essential American story from a master craftsman.” Purchase a copy of the book for reading in the next six weeks. We’ll gather on Tuesday, October 15 at 5:30pm for discussion. And as a special event bonus, Jessala has lined up author Lisa Grunwald to join us by Zoom! How cool that we’ll be able to visit with her to discuss her fine new work! See you on the 15th!
