The NewSouth Bookstore actively hosts bookstore and off-site literary programs — book talks and readings — along with a variety of other programs both entertaining and educational. These include presentations by historians, readings of plays, music events, and community service programs. We enjoy such gatherings quite a lot. Our bookstore events calendar is always evolving, so please regularly check back here for updates to our calendar (and/or follow us on social media, where all such activities are also posted). We welcome your event suggestions and thank you for your support.
Bill Nye, the Science Guy, says, “If insects weren’t everywhere on Earth, you and I wouldn’t be here either.” Which inspired us to invite Peter Kuper, author of the newly published Insectopolis: A Natural History, to The NewSouth Bookstore for a talk on Thursday, June 19 at 5:30pm. In his wildly inventive and informative work, award-winning cartoonist Peter Kuper transports readers through the 400 million-year history of insects and the remarkable entomologists who have studied them. The result is eye-popping, a visually stunning book that will transport you to a better understanding of why insects in our ecosystem matter. Come be educated and inspired.
