The NewSouth Bookstore space is intimate. Cozy if not terribly large. A good place for quiet browsing, with nooks and crannies where interesting books can hide. We have a few comfortable upholstered chairs — and the famous Johnnie Carr couch (see Tour Groups Welcome) — where you can sit and read, getting off your feet. Near our front door hangs a sign with a quote we borrowed from Lawrence Ferlinghetti, about City Lights, which well describes our store:
“A kind of library where books are sold.”
We offer a curated selection of new and recently released titles along with a broad range of books of general interest — close to 10,000 volumes in all — designed to please our most frequent customers and others who find their way to our store.
If a book you want is not in stock, we can easily custom order it. It usually takes only a few days to receive a special order. If you need a book sooner than that, let us know. We can usually accommodate. Taking care of your book needs is our reason for being. We handle custom orders all day every day.
In addition to custom orders, we can also arrange direct-to-home shipments. These typically get a book directly into your hands even faster, though shipping charges may apply.
