The NewSouth Bookstore actively hosts bookstore and off-site literary programs — book talks and readings — along with a variety of other programs both entertaining and educational. These include presentations by historians, readings of plays, music events, and community service programs. We enjoy such gatherings quite a lot. Our bookstore events calendar is always evolving, so please regularly check back here for updates to our calendar (and/or follow us on social media, where all such activities are also posted). We welcome your event suggestions and thank you for your support.
We welcome Gerry Wilson to The NewSouth Bookstore on Tuesday, June 11 at 5:30pm. Bart Barton will lead her in conversation about her first novel, That Pinson Girl. Told against the backdrop of the deprivation of World War I and the tragedies of the influenza epidemic, That Pinson Girl unfolds in lyrical, unflinching prose, engaging the timeless issues of racism, sexism, and poverty. Wilson is a recipient of a Mississippi Arts Commission Literary Arts Fellowship. Her story collection, Crosscurrents and Other Stories, was nominated for the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Fiction Award. Come discover the work of this fine writer as we celebrate the release of her newest book.
