The NewSouth Bookstore actively hosts bookstore and off-site literary programs — book talks and readings — along with a variety of other programs both entertaining and educational. These include presentations by historians, readings of plays, music events, and community service programs. We enjoy such gatherings quite a lot. Our bookstore events calendar is always evolving, so please regularly check back here for updates to our calendar (and/or follow us on social media, where all such activities are also posted). We welcome your event suggestions and thank you for your support.
Matthew Lockwood is our special guest on Thursday, February 6 at 5:30pm with his new book, Explorers. Brilliant in its brevity, Explorers maps the impulse to seek out new worlds which is universal to humanity, focusing on familiar icons of Western exploration such as Columbus and Captain Cook but also including female voyagers of the Viking period and other lesser known figures, such as Ghulam Rassul Galwan, a guide for European travelers in the Himalayas. Wonderfully insightful and entertaining, Explorers gives a new perspective on the history of exploration, taking readers on a journey that is an homage to the adventures of our ancestors — and our own.
