The NewSouth Bookstore actively hosts bookstore and off-site literary programs — book talks and readings — along with a variety of other programs both entertaining and educational. These include presentations by historians, readings of plays, music events, and community service programs. We enjoy such gatherings quite a lot. Our bookstore events calendar is always evolving, so please regularly check back here for updates to our calendar (and/or follow us on social media, where all such activities are also posted). We welcome your event suggestions and thank you for your support.
A fun evening is in store for you with a talk by Michael Streissguth about his new book Highways and Heartaches: How Ricky Skaggs, Marty Stuart, and Children of the New South Saved the Soul of Country Music. Mark your calendars to join us on Thursday, July 18 at 5pm. In his entertaining book, Streissguth tracks the evolution of country music from the rural routes of 1960s and ‘70s Appalachia to the 1980s country music boom that paved the way for modern Americana. David and Barbara Betts and a couple of others from the Montgomery Dulcimer Players will open the program playing for your enjoyment starting at 4:45pm.
