NewSouth Bookstore

The NewSouth Bookstore actively hosts bookstore and off-site literary programs — book talks and readings — along with a variety of other programs both entertaining and educational. These include presentations by historians, readings of plays, music events, and community service programs. We enjoy such gatherings quite a lot. Our bookstore events calendar is always evolving, so please regularly check back here for updates to our calendar (and/or follow us on social media, where all such activities are also posted). We welcome your event suggestions and thank you for your support.

Thursday, October 23 at 5:30pm at The NewSouth Bookstore: Gloria Browne-Marshall talks about A Protest History of the United States

October 23 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Gloria J. Browne-Marshall stops at The NewSouth Bookstore on Thursday, October 23 at 5:30pm for a talk about her new book, A Protest History of the United States. In this timely new work, professor Browne-Marshall delves into the history of protest movements and rebellion in the United States, beginning with Indigenous peoples’ resistance to European colonization and continuing through to today’s climate change demonstrations. Author Erika Krouse, says about the book, “We don’t often read history seeking hope, but in Gloria Browne-Marshall’s A Protest History of the United States, we find it in every exquisitely written chapter. This extraordinary book chronicles the marginalized American heroes who, through overt and covert acts of rebellion, protested systemic injustice, cruelty, and greed. Browne-Marshall has uncovered a national legacy of resistance and resilience we can believe in.” Be with us for this special program.
